How “The Lineup” Connects Western Students to Careers

The easy way to get an internship!

Happy graduation
Ella Greene’s Graduation day!

When Digital Marketing student Ella Greene opened her inbox and saw a new edition of The Lineup, something clicked.

“There it was—a social media internship that matched exactly what I was looking for,” Greene says. “I applied that same day. I honestly don’t think I would’ve seen that posting otherwise.”

That one email helped Greene land an internship, gain hands-on experience, and sharpen the skills she needed to confidently step into the digital marketing world. For Greene, it was more than a good opportunity—it was a turning point.

That’s exactly what Western’s Career Services team had in mind when The Lineup was created.

Developed by Career Services Specialist Elizabeth Tesar, The Lineup is a biweekly email that curates job and internship opportunities by program. Each edition includes personalized job leads from Handshake (a national college career platform), employer collections (curated tips tailored to student profiles) and career events—all in one student-pleasing message.

“I designed The Lineup to remove friction from the job search,” Tesar says. “Students are busy. This gives them a clear, customized starting point.”

To build it, Tesar researched best practices, collaborated with faculty and staff, and built a system that directly supports student career readiness. The results are impressive: more than 1,970 job postings have been shared through 22 emailed editions in the 2024–25 academic year alone. Open rates regularly exceed 53%, well above industry norms.

But the real impact? Stories like Greene’s!

Her advice to other students: “watch your inbox, take the leap, and let Western help you launch your career.
