To mark National Apprenticeship Week next week, Western Technical College officially opened its newly remodeled Apprenticeship and Industry Training Center, completing a $3.5 million project that significantly upgrades the facility located at 2860 21st Place South, La Crosse.
The project, which began in May of this year, upgrades the space into a state-of-the-art classroom for apprenticeship training. The entrance of the building has shifted to the front of the building, offering a larger student lounge and space for studying. The building is fitted with new equipment throughout, offering students the opportunity to work on the latest technology in the workforce. In addition, lab spaces are designed to mimic a real life work environment.
“Apprenticeship programs are becoming more important for our workforce across the state, with annual median salaries exceeding $70,000,” said Western President Roger Stanford. “The former facility lacked the latest infrastructure to support those needs. With this remodeling project, we now have a state-of-the-art building to support workforce opportunities across the region.”
A ribbon cutting and open house event will be scheduled when COVID precautions allow.
