Western’s basketball teams were in action over the weekend, both looking to improve upon a winning streak as of late.
The women’s team defeated Minnesota West 68-56 on Saturday, Jan. 19. Despite a strong 3rd quarter by Minnesota West, the Cavaliers held on with a strong 16-5 4th quarter. Lexi Schmidtknecht led Western with 11 points. Casey Moger led the team with seven rebounds.
Western next plays 15-3 Anoka-Ramsey in a big conference matchup at home this evening. Tipoff is at 5:30 p.m.
On the men’s side, the Cavaliers defeated Minnesota West 85-83 on Saturday as well. Western was down 10 at the half, but outscored Minnesota West by 12 in the second half to seal the game. Justen Kidd and Kadar Farah both led the team with 20 points each. Jason Gurholt provided 17 points as well. Kidd provided eight assists, while Farah led with eight rebounds.
Like the women’s squad, the Cavaliers will play Anoka-Ramsey this evening at home. Tipoff is at 7:30 p.m.
