Preventing Bike Theft

Western Technical College’s security department hosted a free bicycle registration event for students at the Union Market on Monday and Tuesday, September 10-11.

According to Western’s Security department, La Crosse Police recover more than 400 stolen bicycles each year. The majority of those bicycles are not returned to their owners because they did not register them.

“The best advice to avoid becoming a victim of bike theft is to register your bike,” said Raj Ramnarace, security manager at Western. “We hope students will use this free, simple solution that will hopefully save them time and money.”

Ramnarace also added that having the proper equipment, including strong locks, can help deter thieves.
