On Friday, May 18, Western celebrated Paralegal Day in Wisconsin with a look at our paralegal program. We also had the chance to feature some of our alumni in the field. Here, we feature Maranda Oliver!
-When did you graduate from Western?
I am a recent graduate of the Paralegal Program at Western, Spring 2018.
-What do you do now?
I am employed in the Legal Department at Kwik Trip, Inc, La Crosse.
-How do you think a paralegal degree helped you in your career?
I started my paralegal internship with Kwik Trip, before I was hired on as a full-time co-worker in the Legal Department. I was able to use my abilities and many of the things I learned through the program and the instructors from Western, to help me in my internship, and on a daily basis as a current employee. I worked hard very for my education, but without the instructors and the paralegal program, I may not have been able to obtain this job on my own.
-How have you changed professionally going through the paralegal program at Western?
By going back to school, I could pursue something that I was passionate about. By entering the Paralegal Program, I was fulfilling something that I had always wanted to do, and for me, this program opened professional networks, and I finally felt I was on the perfect career path. I have always been good at time management, and maintaining a good work ethic and professional attitude, but this program and its classes helped me grow in all aspects even more.
