Western students across multiple programs hosted the inaugural Horticopia event at the courtyard between the Business Education Center and Integrated Technology Center on Wednesday, April 11.
Students from the Landscape Horticulture, Early Childhood Education, and Foundations of Teacher Education programs participated in the event. Throughout the afternoon, students provided tree-inspired snacks and hands on activities. Later in the day, children from the YWCA Child Care Center participated in a tree planting demonstration. In addition, students from Western’s Foods Club gave away fresh produce.
“Sustainability is such an important part of the educational experience at Western,” said Genevieve Mortenson, Western sustainability assistant and organizer for the event. “This event incorporates many different students in an effort to make our community more eco-friendly for all.”
In addition to the event, Western’s student government hosted a campus cleanup.
Great job, everyone!
