In collaboration with Consumer Credit Counseling Service of La Crosse, Western Technical College hosted a free tax assistance event on Thursday, March 1, for any individuals and married couples making less the $66,000 in 2017.
Tax assistance was provided one-to-one where volunteers, like our own vice president of Finance and Operations Wade Hackbarth, prepared a 2017 tax return for an individual or couple. Clients were also able to use MyFreeTaxes.com to file for free on their own at a computer, where a volunteer assistant was present to answer questions.
“Not everyone can afford to have someone prepare their taxes,” said Kari Reyburn, Community Engagement coordinator at Western. “We hope this event provides some relief for those who need help with taxes, as well as help our volunteers, many of which are students.”
There will be additional tax assistance events on Saturday, March 17 and April 7 from 9:00 a.m.-4:00 p.m.at the Business Education Center, 405 8th St., La Crosse.
Attendees must bring a photo I.D., appropriate Social Security cards, wage and earning statements, health insurance forms, a copy of last year’s federal and state returns, and proof of bank account routing and account numbers.
Walk-ins are welcome, but not guaranteed an appointment. To set up an appointment for the event, contact Consumer Credit Counseling Services at 608.784.8380 or 1.844.307.7220.
