People

The first week in March was Dental Assistant Week, a chance to recognize the importance of Dental Assistants across the country, and an opportunity to highlight our own graduates in the field! To learn more, visit www.westerntc.edu/dental-assistant. Below is a feature from Taylor Berra.

Where are you currently working?

I work for Dr. Richard A. Lehrke DDS

What do you enjoy most about your job?

The best part about being a Dental Assistant for me is meeting new patients and creating a relationship with them. Making a patient, especially a child, feel welcome and comfortable is very important in the Dental field. I also enjoy seeing patients leave with a smile on their face, giving us Assistants reassurance that we really are making a difference.

What drew you to the Dental Assistant program at Western?

Throughout my high school career, I had the privilege of fixing my teeth with the help of braces. Unlike my peers, I loved my braces and enjoyed every moment I spent at my Orthodontic appointments. The staff was amazing and eventually inspired me to go into the Dental field. At the same time, I wanted to stay in the La Crosse area after high school and Western was the perfect fit. With the program being less than a year and the instructors helping me earn a wonderful degree, I couldn’t be happier with my decision.

Why should others consider a Dental Assistant career?

If you are looking for a rewarding career and one with a short college path, I’d 100% recommend going into the Dental Assistant program. Creating a relationship with patients, helping patients achieve good oral health, working closely with coworkers and solving patient wants and needs makes for the best work day I could ever ask for.

Thank you, Taylor!
