With the MCAC regular season complete, let’s do a short recap on Western’s men’s and women’s basketball teams.
The men’s squad finished with a 2-12 record in conference and 7-19 overall. Mahlik Lindsey led the team overall with 15.9 points per game this season. Highlights include victories over Itasca CC, Rochester CTC, and Minnesota West. As a result of the team’s record, they did not qualify for the MCAC Southern Division tournament.
The women’s team once again had a dominant season. The Cavaliers finished 8-2 in conference and 20-6 overall, consistently ranking nationally with the NJCAA. Caitlin Young led the team with 13.2 points per game this season. The Cavaliers consistently defeated quality opponents all season long.
As a result, the women’s team once again qualified for the conference tournament this weekend, Feb. 29-March 1. Anoka-Ramsey will be the host, as the Cavaliers fell just one game behind them in the regular season standings. The winner of the tournament will advance to the NJCAA Division III national tournament at Rock Valley College in Rockford, Illinois.
Western will play Minnesota West in the semifinal round this Saturday, Feb. 29 at 2:00 p.m. at Anoka-Ramsey. The game will be live streamed on their website.
