Athletics Update: 1-30


Both Western’s men’s and women’s basketball teams played a key in-conference opponent on the road on Jan. 29.

The men’s squad lost to Anoka-Ramsey 80-69. The Rams outscored the Cavaliers 43-25 in the first half, but Western fought back. Cade Badertshrer led the team with 20 points. Brian Huneck and Jalen Alexander also chipped in 15 points each.

The loss puts the Cavaliers at 1-6 in conference and 6-13 overall.

On the women’s side, the Cavaliers lost a close one, 61-59. The game was tied at the half, and was close throughout. Macy Mau scored 14 points. Makenna Gabel led the team with seven rebounds. They will play in a rematch at home to finish the regular season. Both teams look strong heading into the final stretch of the season.

The men’s team will play this Saturday, Feb. 1, at home against Minnesota State Fergus Falls. Tipoff at 2:00 p.m. The women’s team will next play Viterbo University’s JV squad next Monday, Feb. 3 at 5:30 p.m.
