Western’s women’s basketball team earned several regular season honors from the Minnesota College Athletic Conference (MCAC) this week.
Head coach Chad Dull was named Coach-of-the-Year for the MCAC South Division. Dull led the team to a 12-0 in conference, 18-5 record overall, becoming one of the most successful women’s teams in school history, and earning the top seed for the NJCAA Region XIIIA Tournament this weekend at Viterbo University.
Second-year forward Kerrigan Lyga was named a first team selection by the MCAC South Division. Lyga led the team with 13 points-per-game in 23 games this season, shooting 50.6% from the floor.
Second-year guard Casey Moger was also named a second team selection by the MCAC South Division. Moger contributed with 5.1 points-per-game, and averaged 5.3 rebounds-per-game.
Second-year forward Krysten Lawver was also named an honorable mention by the conference. Lawver averaged seven points-per-game for the Cavaliers, while also providing 5.1 rebounds-per-game.
The Cavaliers will play Rochester Community and Technical College this Saturday, March 2, at 1:00 p.m. in the 2019 NJCAA Region XIIIA Tournament. Anoka-Ramsey Community College and Minnesota West Community and Technical College will face off at 3:00 p.m. The winners of those matchups will play in the championship on Sunday, March 3, at 1:00 p.m.
