Student Profile: Melanie Rabjohn

We have another student profile for you. Today, we feature Melanie Rabjohn!

-What is your program? Where did you go to high school?

I am enrolled in the Health Information Technology Program (HIT), and I went to high school in Germany.

-Who has been your favorite instructor at Western?

Honestly, I don’t have a favorite instructor at Western. All my instructors have been amazing in their own unique way. Of course, there are some whom I have developed a closer relationship with than with others but that doesn’t mean that I like them any less.

-What do you like about Western?

At Western you are recognized for who you are, and you are encouraged to embrace and unfold your uniqueness without having to fear any judgement from others. Western is community oriented and students are still students and not just mere numbers, as it can be the case at larger campuses.

-Future career goals?

If I only knew where this journey is going to end up. All I know is that I will graduate this spring, and I will continue my studies at UW-Parkside. The HIMT sector is such a broad field and, therefore, I am just not 100% sure about where exactly I will end up.

-Advice for future students?

Hold on and hold tight! Keep your goal in mind and be patient. As Oprah Winfrey once stated: “You can have it all. Just not all at once.” To all of you out there just starting your academic journey at Western: It isn’t always easy and sometimes the workload feels like a Tsunami, but rest assured you will survive. Take small steps instead of big steps (looking too far ahead isn’t a good thing). Otherwise, you will feel overwhelmed and may think it is impossible to tackle.
