Western Technical College’s student-run restaurant will open for the spring term beginning Tuesday, Jan. 15, from 10:45 a.m.-12:45 p.m. on the first floor of the Kumm Center, 400 6th St. N., La Crosse.
The Union Bistro, run by Culinary Management and Culinary Assistant students, gives the students an opportunity to experience different aspects of operating a restaurant. Each week, the theme of the restaurant will change, giving customers a different look at the dishes students prepare, as well as providing a changing environment for the class.
Beginning this year, the Union Bistro will be open Tuesdays, in addition to the traditional Thursdays. The Bistro will be closed Jan. 22, Feb. 28, and April 18.
“We have received such great support from Western, and the community in general, which is why we chose to expand our hours,” said Deb Klug, instructor for the Culinary Management program at Western. “Students learn all aspects of a restaurant – including customer service, sanitation, production, and timing. This is a culmination of all their training at Western.”
Entrees range from $7.00 to $9.00 and starters, small plates, and desserts range from $3.00 to $5.00.
Restaurant reservations are encouraged and can be made by calling Deb Klug at (608) 785-9215 or emailing email@example.com.
