Western’s basketball teams are back in action following the holiday break!
On the men’s side, the Cavaliers lost to Ridgewater 98-79 on Wednesday, Jan. 9. Jarrell Tarr led Western with 20 points off the bench. Andrew Scott and Brian Huneck led the team with four rebounds each.
Western also lost to Riverland CC 99-62 on Saturday, Jan. 12. Kadar Farah led the team with 14 points and four rebounds. Kyle Wingert led the team with nine rebounds.
The Cavaliers defeated Rochester CTC 81-69 last evening, Jan. 16, at home. Western led by nine at the half, and took control in the second. Farah once again led the team with a double-double, scoring 17 points and 10 rebounds. Three other players score in double digits.
The most recent stretch puts the team at 1-2 in conference and 6-8 overall. They next play Minnesota West at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 19.
The women’s team has been busy as well. Western defeated Ridgewater 82-57 on Jan 9. The Cavaliers were in control throughout the first half, and pulled away with a 27-point fourth quarter. Caitlin Young led the team with 21 points, while Kerrigan Lyga provided eighteen. Casey Moger also provided 10 rebounds.
The Cavaliers squeaked out a victory against Rochester CTC on Jan. 16, winning 70-65. The score was even at halftime, but Western took control in the third quarter, outscoring the Yellowjackets 16-9. Lyga led the team with 12 points, while Rylee Gabel provided 10 rebounds.
The two victories put Western at 2-0 in conference and 8-5 overall. They next play against Minnesota West at home on Saturday, Jan. 19 at 1:00 p.m.
