For the first time, staff from Western Technical College reviewed portfolios of cadets from Wisconsin’s Challenge Academy on Thursday, Dec. 6. Cadets were assessed on whether they meet the course competencies for Western’s Professionalism and Success course. If they demonstrated their knowledge, cadets were granted three college credits. In total, all 88 cadets received college credit.
The Wisconsin Challenge Academy is an alternative education program designed for at-risk youth to provide values, skills, education and self-discipline necessary to succeed as adults.
Earlier this year, Western and the Wisconsin Challenge Academy announced a new educational partnership, providing college credit upon completion of the Challenge program. The agreement is made possible through Western’s Credit for Prior Learning program, where students earn education credit for real-life experiences.
A full story and profile on one of the cadets from the Challenge Academy will be coming shortly.
