Western Technical College’s Human Services and Criminal Justice clubs hosted a public presentation, “A Community Response to Trauma,” last Friday at the Lunda Center.
Various community leaders, including Judge Todd Bjerke, La Crosse Neighborhood Resource Officers Joel Miller and Alex Burg, and domestic abuse survivor Carolyn Colleen spoke at the event. The goal of the presentations were to provide awareness, education, and compassion to the victims of trauma, and find ways to equip the community with effective tools for combating trauma in the future.
“Trauma exposes itself in a variety of forms, and its damage riddles our community,” said Western student William Robbins. “We hope this event will bring more attention to a problem that occurs every day.”
The event was well received, with over 200 guests attending the event, which included breakout sessions.
